Asha Singh

Singh was born on 1 August 1955 in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Her father Chaudhary Diwan Singh was a high-ranking official in the Indian Railways and her mother was a housewife. Singh attended school in Mathura.

Singh married Digamber Singh on 19 January 1974 in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. She had two children with Singh. Her brother Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan Singh is a Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Singh was the Chairman & Founder of Shri. Digamber Group of Hospitals and Medical Institutions which is a prominent group in Rajasthan.

Singh's husband Digamber Singh was MLA for over two decades and served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Rajasthan. She was seen as a potential candidate for various designations in the BJP organisation. Her name was also circulated during the 2008 & 2013 Rajasthan elections from the constituency of Nadbai, Bharatpur. However, owing to political reasons Digamber discouraged Asha to contest assembly elections. Following the death of her husband in 2017, she was seen to succeed him from the Singh bastion of Deeg Kumher, Bharatpur. However, her son Shailesh contested the election.

Singh was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in January 2021. She underwent chemotherapy in Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur. She underwent a surgery in May 2021 at BLK-Max Hospital in New Delhi and was under the supervision of a highly specialised team of doctors.

Singh died on 30 August 2021 at Eternal Heart Care Centre in Jaipur. The cause of death was identified to be multiple organ failure.

Following Singh's death, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his grief and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed her shock and dismay remembering Asha as a friend. A dozen ministers from the Rajasthan Government along with half a dozen MPs and MLAs attended the funeral of Singh in Bharatpur, Rajasthan on 31 August. The markets in Eastern Rajasthan were closed for a day in her respect.
