Bridget Andrews

Andrews was brought up on a farm and started riding at a young age, and progressed through Pony Club to point to point racing by 16. Andrews won National Novice title and a National Ladies Championship before turning professional in 2015.[2]

Andrews joined Dan Skelton’s yard as a conditional jockey in 2015.[3] Andrews scored her first Cheltenham Festival win in 2018 aboard the 33-1 outsider Mohaayed in the County Hurdle. In achieving this Andrews became only the second female professional to win a race at The Festival.[4][5][6]

In 2020 Andrews raced on William Funnell’s Olympia victor Billy Angelo.[7] In 2021 Andrews won the Many Clouds Chase on Protektorat at Aintree.[8][9]

On 21 April, 2022 racing at Warwick, Andrews had a fall from her horse, Dazzling Glory. She discovered two weeks later that ongoing soreness was because she had broken her neck in three places - “two fractures to the C2, the C6 into C7, as well as the C5”.[10]

Andrews was born to Simon and Joanna Andrews who were both jockeys; Simon won the Aintree Foxhunters on Newnham in 1988 and finished tenth at the 1989 Grand National, and Joanna rode 9 winners in her career. Bridget’s older sister Gina and younger brother Jack are also jockeys, and all 3 siblings live close to each other in Warwickshire. In 2020 Gina and Jack were reigning Mens and Ladies Champions in Point-to-point.[11][12]

In 2019, Andrews married fellow jockey Harry Skelton and her father-in-law is British gold medal winning Olympian Nick Skelton and brother-in-law the horse racing trainer Dan Skelton.[13][14]
