Bruce Bucknell

Bruce James Bucknell is a British diplomat who was formerly Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata. He previously served as Ambassador to Belarus.[1]

Career

Bucknell's first overseas posting upon joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office was to Amman (1988–1991).[2] He later served in Milan (1995–1999), and was First Secretary at the Embassy in Madrid (2003–2007).[2] He was Deputy Head of the Sudan Unit at the Department for International Development (2007–2009) and subsequently Deputy Head of Security in Estates at the Security Directorate of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office until 2011.[2]

Belarus

Appointed Ambassador to Belarus in 2012, he left this post in 2016. In an interview given to the website Euro Belarus, Bucknell said he was optimistic about gradual reengagement of Belarus by the nations of the European Union and described Belarus' accession to the European Higher Education Area the previous year a great success.[3] He then became Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata.[4]

Personal

Bucknell studied Modern History at Durham University.[1] He is married and has two sons.[2]
