Bybit is a cryptocurrency exchange[1] founded in 2018.[2] Bybit is headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. As of October 2021, it stated that it had over 10 million registered users worldwide.[3][4][5]

History

In March 2018, Ben Zhou founded Bybit.[6] Bybit started as a cryptocurrency derivatives platform that provided perpetual contracts to traders.[7] It operates worldwide except in the United States,[8] mainland China, Singapore, Quebec (Canada) and a few other jurisdictions.[9][10][11] Bybit offers cryptocurrency trading, passive income products, an NFT marketplace,[12] a token launchpad and institutional services.[7][13][14]

2019

Bybit organized the Bitcoin trading competition, BTC Brawl, in November 2019.[15]

2020

Since 2020, Bybit has organized the World Series of Trading (WSOT) competition that runs annually.[16] In November 2020, the German football team Borussia Dortmund signed a partnership with Bybit.[17]

2021

In February 2021, Bybit sponsored Oracle Red Bull Racing (ORBR) in a $150 million deal.[18]

Bybit launched its ByFi Center in May 2021, which is now rebranded as Bybit Earn for crypto users to access DeFi products or staking.[19][20]

Bybit started spot trading beginning on July 15, 2021.[21] In August 2021, Bybit signed esports deals with esports organizations, NAVI,[22] Virtus.pro,[23] Astralis and Alliance.[24][25] Bybit started its Bybit Launchpad platform, with BitDAO (BIT) in September. The program is for those Bybit users who have completed KYC to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements.[26]

In July 2021, Bybit partnered up with identity verification provider Sumsub to develop its identity verification features.[27][28]
