Elias Lindo (1740-1785) was an English Royal Exchange broker.

Life

He was the son of Isaac Lindo. (1709-1766), an exchange broker, and Bathseba Haim Lindo (Abravanel).

Jacob Franco Sr. left each of his grandchildren £40,000. They invested it in the firm of Franco & Lindo, which was directed by Elias.[1][2]

He was a Freemason and friend of Lord George Gordon. [3][4][5]

Parnas of Bevis Marks Synagogue several times during the 1770's. [6][7]

On December 12, 1774, Lindo transferred 1168 acres of land at Four Mile Run, Virginia, to George Washington for £900.[8][9]

In 1781 he sued George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney for property sized from his uncle Benjamin during the Capture of Sint Eustatius. [10]

He married Grace Lumbroso de Mattos and had eight children including:

Batsheba who married Joshua Basevi and had issue including: George Basevi
Ephraim (1763-1838) who married Sarah Basevi and has issue including: Benjamin Ephraim Lindo (1794-1854), a director of Union Bank of Australia and first cousin of Benjamin Disraeli[11][12]
Abigail who married Moses de Mattos Mocatta and had issue including: Elias Mocatta and David Mocatta
