Far from Home (AcebergTM EP)

Far from Home is the debut extended play by Nigerian musician AcebergTM. It was released on 16 April 2021, by SJW Entertainment, and distributed through ONErpm. Far from Home is inspired by his journey, untold stories, and passion for being extraordinary.[1] The album is a mixture of Afropop, R&B, Amapiano, and Afrobeats percussive rhythms.[2] It was executively produced by Sir Justine, with additional production from Phantom, Tempoe, Kel-P, JFred, and Winexroll. The EP received favorable reviews from critics.

Lyrically, Far from Home communicate, with elements that associate with love, and romance, including adulthood pressure.[3][4]

Background and promotion

After he was discovered in 2019 by Sir Justine, who eventually signed him to SJW Entertainment in March, the following year.[5] On 27 July 2020, he premiered "Heart Breaker", on YouTube, a short film starring Toni Tones.[6] Thereafter he released his first promotional single "Heart Breaker" since signed. On 26 March 2021, AcebergTM released "Danca",[7] a song produced and mixed by Kel-P, and began working on his debut extended play. On 13 March 2021, he tells The Guardian "Far from home is the feeling I get any time I listen to any of the songs on the EP."[8] Following the release of "Danca" music video on 16 April 2021, directed by Ademola Falomo.[9] "Danca" earned his first chart entry at number 44 on TurnTable Top 50 chart. The song peaked at number 33 on the 6th week.[10]

On 19 April 2021, Far from Home debuted at number 1 on Apple Music Alternative Albums chart in Nigeria.[11] On 6 August 2021, he released "Bella" as a promotional single from the extended play.[12] The record was accompany with the release of it music video directed by Ademola Falomo.[13] In September 2021, he launched Far from Home media tour in Ghana to promote ep.[14]

Critical reception

In a review for The Guardian, the editor said "From “Rockstar” to “Slow wine” to the popular “Danca” to “Bella” to “What I like” to “Loyal”, one fact is so evident that is, excellent fusion of a few trending genres and relatable lyrics. My favorite so far, “Slow wine”, “Danca” and “Loyal” produced by Tempoe, Kel P and JFred, respectively."[3] In a review for Boomplay, BoomBuzz writer Jho Ananeyi said: "AcebergTM has delivered a highly eccentric body of work that places him as one of the few singers with an exceptional style of music in the Nigerian industry."[4] and said, "The beautifully constructed songs don't seem quite far from home and it takes just a listen to get you falling in love with the 6-track EP."[4]
