Ismael Mengs
Ismael Israel Mengs (1690 – 26 December 1765) was a Danish portrait painter.

Born in Copenhagen into a family of Jewish descent,[1] he learned the art of miniature- and enamel-painting in Lübeck, and then traveled through Germany, Italy, and Austria. He earned a scant livelihood until 1764, when he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in Dresden, and court painter to August III, from whom he received an annuity.
