Career
While she was in college at New York, she began her musical career in third grade. In the first year she played acoustic guitar around open mic, and from the end of the second year she also started playing with Logic Pro[1] About two years after she started her musical career, she met the director of Hikaru Utada with the introduction of her friend from her childhood, and started her debut.[2]
On November 6, 2020, her major debut was made with digital single "Unity".[3] She belongs to "Office RIA" of Epic Records Japan.[4] China's animated film The Legend of Hei: The Future I Choose she was appointed as the theme song for the Japanese version. For the song, the hit Producer Team and Jam & Lewis of America volunteered to serve as a producer.[5]
On November 7, his first performance on the official YouTube channel.[5] She performed three songs with English covers of his debut song "Unity", "Sorakara" before the release, and Eito "Kosui". The video was shot using Sony's next-generation video system "Warp Square".[6]
On August 11, 2021, the new song "0 (zero)" was released.[7] "0 (zero)" is used a closing theme for the anime The Case Study of Vanitas and an English version was also produced for overseas distribution of the animation. On the same day, Music Video in Japanese and English by the videographer Soh Ideuchi was also released on YouTube. Following the previous work, Jam & Lewis was in charge of producing the song.[8]
In August, she released a remixed version 6 track of "0 (zero)". The remix was done by British DJ and producer Royal-T and Son Of 8.[9] On September 8, a CD single "0 (zero)" with a jacket with an anime pattern will be released as a limited edition. This CD single also includes the debut song "Unity".
Background
The artist name "LMYK" is the initials of the real name. When she made her debut, she was suggested to the director.[2] Regarding this artist name, she said, "There are places where I dare not know whether I am alone or a large number of people, not to mention gender. At first I thought I would do it with my real name, but I feel that it does not match the music I am making. I used this notation because it's four letters that I'm familiar with, and it's surprisingly easy to say "LM WIKE" in Japanese."[10]
She has a German father and a Japanese mother. Her father liked Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Whitney Houston, and her mother liked Seiko Matsuda, so she has been around since she was little. She liked music. She was in kindergarten at International School at the time. She said she could only speak Japanese at that time, she went to elementary school and she could understand English. After she started going to school, she started listening to songs by trendy artists such as The Beatles, Carpenters, Spice Girls, and Backstreet Boys. She also was fond of "Ai Nanda" from V6 and bought an 8cm single at that time. When I was little, I was quiet, shy, and shy.[2] She loved sports when he was in elementary school, and he still likes basketball. She also liked playing alone and making things, and he said in an interview that he was "very excited about what he could only make".[11]
She had been taking piano lessons since I was 6 years old, but when I was in the third grade of elementary school, I was attracted to percussion instruments and thought, "I want to do more violence, I just want to hit" in the music class Drum started to learn. He continued to play the drums after entering high school, and at the age of 17, he began playing the acoustic guitar that his sister was learning.[2] She was around this time that he started writing songs, which was triggered by listening to the song Koji Tamaki.[2] He went on to college in New York, and when he was in his third year, he realized that he liked singing, and started taking his long-cherished vocal lessons. Then, he was asked by a vocal teacher, "Would you like to write a song?" And started writing songs in earnest".[11]
She likes basketball and still plays in the hoops of local gymnasiums and parks. Her favorite artists are Solange and James Blake.[11] She grew up listening to pop music, but especially in Hikaru Utada, I heard that there was something I sympathized with in the lyrics and other parts, and listened to the album "First Love" since she was 10 years old. Hikaru's "First Love" is said to have its roots.[2]
Her motto in life is "You are the universe" and "See it big, keep it simple".[11]
