Nanchang Institute of Technology (pinyin: Nánchāng gōngchéng xuéyuàn; abbr. NIT) is a national public and high-level applied engineering university in Nanchang, China. The university is established and funded by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province., Ministry of Water Resources, and Ministry of Education.

By 2022, Nanchang Institute of Technology ranked 14th in the province by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. In terms of three majors including water conservancy and hydropower engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering, and soil and water conservation and desertification control, Nanchang Institute of Technology ranked first in the country by Chinese university ranking (CUAA).
History
It has gone through several changes in name and was established and known as Jiangxi Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in 1958. It became Nanchang Institute of Technology in 2004 and was awarded as a pilot university for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and master's degree training in 2011. It was also approved as a direct training institution for non-commissioned officers in 2013 and became a "first-class discipline" construction university in 2017. In 2018, it was selected as a national first-class professional construction university.
As a significant step in the innovation and reformation aspect of the university, Yaohu honour school was established in 2014 with the aim of further selecting students with passionate research interest and high versatility from the university (40 out of over 4000 students). While studying in the honours college, students are fully exposed to interdisciplinary exploration and intensive research training. [3]

The university is dedicated to building world-class academic programs and capitalizing on the strategic opportunity of "Double First-Class". Water Conservancy Engineering and Electrical Engineering are designated as first-class disciplines in Jiangxi Province's "14th Five-Year Plan". Its master's degree programs cover Hydraulic Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Civil Water Conservancy, Forestry, Machinery, Energy Power, Electronic Information, Business Management, Applied Statistics, Publishing, Art, and Translation.
Research and Innovation
The school boasts 38 innovation platforms at various levels, including 5 national-level science and technology platforms, 16 provincial-level key laboratories, engineering research centres, and other platforms. It also has 7 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centres and is home to the Jiangxi Institute of Electronics. The "Journal of Nanchang Institute of Technology" is highly ranked among engineering colleges and universities nationwide. Additionally, the school has 2 provincial-level scientific and technological innovation teams and 9 provincial-level high-level undergraduate teaching construction teams.
Over the past five years, it has won more than 90 national-level projects and over 700 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with a cumulative research funding of 610 million yuan. It has obtained over 1,000 patents and software copyrights, and published over 3,000 academic papers, including over 600 SCI/EI retrieval articles. The school has received 12 provincial government science and technology awards, 11 provincial social science outstanding achievement awards, 9 provincial teaching achievement awards, 2 Liangxi Forestry Science and Technology Awards, 1 Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award, including Jiangxi Province's 1st prize for Technology Invention Award and 2 first prizes for Science and Technology Progress Award.
The university has also successfully hosted numerous large-scale international and domestic academic conferences, including the first International Soil and Water Conservation Youth Forum, the Third Global Forest Ecological Economic Forum, the Annual Academic Conference of the Chinese Water Conservancy Society, the Fifth Academic Symposium on Precious Tree Species in China, and the Southern Soil and Water Conservation Research Association Academic Annual Conference.
Cooperation with industry
The University Science and Technology Park has received recognition from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education as a "National University Science and Technology Park," "National Maker Space," "National Small and Micro Enterprise Entrepreneurship and Innovation Demonstration Base," and "National Science and Technology Business Incubator." It is actively involved in the "jointly grasping great protection" initiative in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and contributing to the construction of the National Ecological Civilization Experimental Zone, having also created the country's first provincial-level campus water conservancy scenic spot.
The park is integrated into the Zhejiang-Jiangxi-Guangdong Grand Canal Project and actively participates in the ultra-high voltage project in Jiangxi. It promotes the application and advancement of water engineering safety, ecological water conservancy, smart water conservancy, and smart grid technology, with a social service fund of over 80 million yuan. The park has also established the Jinxi Science and Education Base and the Hejinxi Regional Comprehensive Testing Center, which supports the selection, development, and utilization of camphor tree varieties and contributes to the local characteristic economy.
The park actively supports the revitalization and development of former Central Soviet areas in southern Jiangxi through counterpart support, and it collaborates with government departments, enterprises, and institutions, such as China Gezhouba Group Corporation, China Aneng Construction Group, Jiangxi Provincial Water Resources Department, Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Group, Jiangxi Provincial Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Group, and State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power, to carry out scientific and technological cooperation.
