PDQ (restaurant)

PDQ ("People Dedicated to Quality") is an American fast-casual restaurant chain that primarily serves fried chicken. Based in Tampa, Florida, it consists of over 76 franchise restaurants and stores in five U.S. states as of 2023.[1]

History

In 2009, Nick Reader, the chief financial officer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quit his position to start his own business. He partnered with Bob Basham, the co-founder of Outback Steakhouse franchise in both Florida and Georgia who was part of Bloomin' Brands at the time. Both men were in search of a restaurant that was fast and served fresh food. While searching for ideas, they discovered a restaurant in Statesville, North Carolina, named Tenders, that the pair made a deal with to share recipes to launch their own chain. In 2011, they opened the first PDQ in Tampa, Florida.[2]

Products

PDQ mainly serves chicken products, including fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, and chicken salads, as well as hand-spun Milkshakes. PDQ also has multiple signature sauces, including Ranch, Buffalo Bleu, Creamy Garlic, Honey BBQ, Sweet Sriracha, Honey Mustard, and PDQ sauce, which is an original recipe.[3]

Philanthropy

PDQ locations participate in many community-related fundraising events, raising over $6 million via these events,[4] as well as donating to charities. In 2021, PDQ donated $55,000 to Best Buddies and 4Roots,[5] and in 2020, PDQ donated $65,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs.[6]
