Pierre Palmade

Pierre Palmade (born 23 March 1968) is a French actor, comedian, stage director and playwright.

Biography

Pierre Palmade began his career as a comedian in the late 1980s; in the 1990s he wrote and played in several stand-up acts,[1] for which he became known for playing unpleasant or irritating characters in his sketches. He also wrote plays with Muriel Robin; they were both notable for writing the plays Ils s'aiment and Ils se sont aimés, directed by Muriel Robin and played onstage by Palmade and Michèle Laroque. For his theater work, Palmade has been nominated several times for the Molière Awards.[2]

In the late 1990s and 2000s, Palmade played in several films and TV series. He also worked as a writer for the films Pédale douce and Pédale dure.

In 2005, he participated in Rendez-vous en terre inconnue. In 2013, he played in Le Fils du Comique with Anne-Élisabeth Blateau at Théâtre Saint-Georges in Paris.

Personal life

Palmade was married to singer Véronique Sanson from 1995 to 2004.[3] In October 2008, Palmade came out as a homosexual,[4] his homosexuality was one of the topics of his 2010 autobiographical play J'ai jamais été aussi vieux.[5]

In an interview in 2019, after being arrested for drug use, he publicly admitted he suffered from drug addiction, declaring: "Cocaine has ruined my life since I was 20".[6]

Palmade was convicted of cocaine use in 1995.[1][7] He was arrested again for cocaine use in 2019, for which he pleaded guilty.[6]

On 10 February 2023, Palmade was responsible for causing a car accident, colliding head-on with another vehicle travelling on the other lane near Villiers-en-Bière in the south of Seine-et-Marne. Palmade was sent to the hospital in critical condition at the Kremlin-Bicêtre's hospital but recovered the next day, and his life was no longer in danger. The other car was carrying a pregnant woman, her brother-in-law, the driver of the vehicle, and his six-year-old child.[7][8] Due to trauma of the accident, the 27-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, where she had an emergency caesarean section.[9] Her seven-months old baby died.[10]

The day after the accident, the lives of the vehicle's three occupants were "still in danger". Two passengers in Palmade's car had fled after the collision. An investigation into possible manslaughter began following a toxicology report; it was found that Palmade was driving under the influence of cocaine.[7][8] On 12 February, the woman's life was no longer in danger, but the man and his child remained in critical condition.[8] On 14 February 2023, the victims' advocate announced that the 27-year-old woman's baby "would have been born alive, but this has to be confirmed by the experts". The advocate also stated that the 38-year-old driver of the vehicle and his six-year-old son were still in the intensive care unit; the child has a "fractured jaw" and is "disfigured".[9]
