Rob Mayes

Rob Mayes is an actor and Empire Nashville country artist best known for portraying John in the Sundance cult-classic John Dies at the End with Paul Giamatti and directed by horror legend Don Coscarelli.  Other films include A Soldier’s Revenge with Val Kilmer for which Mayes won Best Actor at the 2020 Wildbunch Film Festival; Burning Blue, Different Flowers, and Warner Brothers' Deep Blue Sea sequel.  He is also known for playing Uncle Marc on ABC's Mistresses, and for playing Derek on Lifetime's The Client List with Jennifer Love Hewitt, as well as being a proud staple in Lifetime's holiday movies, two of which with Marie Osmond.  Other television credits include Frequency, Legends, Finding Carter, Jane By Design, 90210, and many others.  Mayes stars alongside Miranda Lambert, Billy Bob Thornton, and Dennis Quaid in iHeart’s hit country podcast series Make It Up as We Go.  His Civil War western THE DESPERATE RIDERS with Trace Adkins is out now via Lionsgate, and Mayes stars in the upcoming country music film THE NEON HIGHWAY opposite Beau Bridges, featuring country superstar Lee Brice and hit songwriter Dallas Davidson. Mayes stars in Sony Affirm’s biopic 5000 BLANKETS opposite Anna Camp, out Jan 5 on PureFlix.

Rob Mayes is an American actor, musician, and model. He is best known for starring as the title character in the 2012 horror comedy film John Dies at the End, as well as portraying Tommy Nutter in the short-lived comedy-drama television series Jane by Design. He also played Barry in the 2019 film Maybe I'm Fine.

Early life

Mayes was raised in Pepper Pike, Ohio,[1] [2] He started modeling when he was five years old.[3]

He attended the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. After leaving the Naval Academy, he focused on songwriting and released a seven-track pop album called Glimpses of Truth.[3]

Career

Two weeks after moving to New York City in 2007, Mayes was hired for a one-episode role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2008, he played the lead role in the MTV musical television film The American Mall.[3]

Mayes had guest starring roles on Cold Case, Valentine, Bones, and Medium[4] and played the lead role in the 2010 film Ice Castles.[5]

In 2012, he starred as John in John Dies at the End, which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2013, he had a recurring role as Tommy Nutter in Jane by Design and guest starring roles in NCIS, The Glades, and 90210.[4]

After a recurring role on The Client List,[4] he portrayed Matthew Blackwood in the 2013 drama film Burning Blue, which was based on the 1992 play of the same name.[6]

In 2014, played Troy Quinn in Legends.[7][8]
