Tsutomu Kambe

Tsutomu (Jixin) Kambe (神部　勉, Kambe Tsutomu) is a Japanese theoretical physicist and a specialist in fluid mechanics and mathematical physics.

Biography

He completed his Bachelors and Masters in physics in 1962 and 1964, respectively at the University of Tokyo. He completed his doctoral degree in 1969 at the University of Tokyo. He worked at the University of Tokyo from 1966 to 2000. He was also served as the British council scholar at the University of Cambridge from 1974 to 1975.[1] He was the president of Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics in 1996.

Scientific research

Kambe's research mainly focuses on fluid mechanics where he made many contributions, including vortex sound, fluid turbulence, exact solutions, etc. He also carried out research on the usage of gauge theories in fluid mechanics.

Research on Bodhidharma

Kambe also researched about the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma. In particular, Kambe recognizes the Chinese characters 香至 from the Chinese literature as Kang-zhi and identifies to be Kanchipuram, an old capital town in the state Tamil Nadu, India.[2][3] He created the Bodhi-Dharma Dojo Foundation.[4][5]
