Vaathi

Vaathi/Sir (transl.Master/Leader) is an upcoming Indian period coming-of-age action drama film written and directed by Venky Atluri. It is shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages. Produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film stars Dhanush and Samyuktha.[1][2][3] The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 17 February 2023.[4]

Premise

Balamurugan (Tamil)/Bala Gangadar Thilak (Telugu) is a third-grade junior lecturer at Thirupati Educational Institute (Tamil)/Tripathi Educational Institute (Telugu) (T.E.I) where he stands against the institutes, who provide education to children in exchange for business profits.

Production

Principal photography of the film began on 7 January 2022. The second schedule of the shoot began in April 2022 when Dhanush had joined the sets after he had finished the shoot of Naane Varuvean. The filming was completed on October 2022.[5][6][7]

The music of the film is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The first single titled "Vaa Vaathi" was released on 10 November 2022.[8] The second single titled "Naadodi Mannan" was released on 17 January 2023.[9]

Release

Theatrical

The film was scheduled for a theatrical release on 2 December 2022 in Tamil and Telugu languages but was postponed.[10][11] In November 2022, it was announced that the film will release on 17 February 2023.[12] It was announced that Seven Screen Studio has acquired the distribution rights of the film in Tamil Nadu.[13]

Home media

Initially, there were reports suggesting that the film's digital rights were acquired by Aha Tamil, but later it was acquired by Netflix.[14] The satellite rights were sold to Sun TV.
