Alexander Sokurov

Alexander Nikolayevich Sokurov, ARR (bahasa Rusia: Алекса́ндр Никола́евич Соку́ров; kelahiran 14 Juni 1951) adalah seorang pembuat film Rusia. Karya buatannya yang paling signifikan meliputi sebuah film fitur yang berjudul Russian Ark (2002), yang difilmkan secara sekali sorot tanpa disunting, dan Faust (2011), yang dianugerahi dengan Golden Lion, penghargaan tertinggi untuk film terbaik di Festival Film Venesia.[1]

Kehidupan dan karya

Sokurov lahir di Podorvikha, Oblast Irkutsk, di Siberia, dalam sebuah keluarga perwira militer. Ia lulus dari Departemen Sejarah Universitas Nizhny Novgorod pada 1974 dan masuk salah satu studio VGIK pada tahun berikutnya. Disana, ia menjadi teman dari Tarkovsky dan sangat terpengaruh dengan filmnya Mirror. Kebanyakan film fitur awal Sokurov dicekal oleh otoritas Soviet. Pada periode awalnya, ia memproduksi sejumlah dokumenteri, termasuk The Dialogues with Solzhenitsyn dan sebuah reportase tentang flat Grigori Kozintsev di St Petersburg. Filmnya Mournful Unconcern dinominasikan untuk Golden Bear di Festival Film Internasional Berlin ke-37 pada 1987.[2]
