Musim 2019-20 adalah musim ke-128 Liverpool keseluruhan, dan musim ke-58 berturut-turut mereka di papan atas sepakbola Inggris. Musim dimulai dengan dua pertandingan piala super yang memenuhi syarat Liverpool berdasarkan penampilan mereka di musim sebelumnya. Setelah berada di urutan kedua di Liga Utama Inggris 2019–2020, Liverpool memperebutkan Community Shield FA 2019 melawan Manchester City, kalah 5-4 melalui adu penalti.[1] Sebagai pemenang Liga Champions UEFA 2018–2019, mereka memperebutkan Piala Super UEFA 2019 melawan Chelsea, menang 5-4 lewat adu penalti. Kemenangan itu adalah yang keempat Liverpool dalam kontes tahunan; hanya Barcelona dan A.C. Milan yang menang lebih banyak, dengan masing-masing lima gelar.[2]

Liverpool tersingkir di perempat final dari Piala EFL 2019–2020 oleh Aston Villa setelah tangkas sisi jauh berpengalaman, dikelola oleh Liverpool U-23 manajer Neil Critchley, sedangkan skuad tim berpartisipasi dalam Piala Dunia Antarklub FIFA 2019 di Qatar di bawah asuhan Klopp.[3] Setelah selesai sebagai runner-up pada tiga kesempatan sebelumnya, Liverpool memenangkan Piala Dunia Antarklub FIFA pertama mereka setelah mengalahkan klub Brasil, Flamengo 1-0 di final setelah perpanjangan waktu,[4] menjadikan mereka tim Inggris pertama yang memenangkan treble internasional Liga Champions UEFA, Piala Super UEFA, dan Piala Dunia Klub FIFA[5][6]

Pada 24 Februari 2020, Liverpool memimpin Liga Utama Inggris 2019–2020 dari Manchester City yang berada di posisi kedua, juara bertahan, dengan rekor tertinggi 22 poin. Setelah 27 pertandingan dimainkan, mereka memiliki 26 kemenangan, 1 seri dan 0 kekalahan.[7][8] Mereka telah menyamai rekor Inggris sepanjang masa mereka sendiri dari 21 kemenangan liga kandang, ditetapkan pada tahun 1972, dan cocok dengan rekor Liga Premier Manchester City dari 18 kemenangan berturut-turut, ditetapkan pada 2017 (keduanya sedang berlangsung).[9][10] Liverpool saat ini menikmati 44 pertandingan tak terkalahkan di liga, di belakang hanya 49 pertandingan tak terkalahkan Arsenal di 2003–04.[11]
