Ballarat ist eine Stadt im australischen Bundesstaat Victoria, sie liegt ca. 120 km nordwestlich von Melbourne.

Hintergrund
Ballarat wurde 1837 gegründet. Während des Victorianischen Goldrausches hatte der Ort rund 20.000 Einwohner, und 1854 kam es zum blutigen Aufstand der Eureka Stockade. In der Folge wurde das Wahlrecht eingeführt, und dieser Vorgang gilt als Ursprung der Demokratie in Australien.

Nächster Verkehrsflughafen ist der Flughafen Melbourne (IATA: MEL) . Von dort verkehrt ein Shuttlebus nach Ballarat.

Der Bahnhof 1 Ballarat Station liegt recht zentrumsnah und hat stündliche Verbindungen von Melbourne.
