I have Ubuntu 14 and want to update but have forgot password.

I can go through GRUB and get to enter new UNIX password but when I try to write password, nothing types. I even tried to enter the command: mount -o remount, DW / and again nothing typed when I tried to name a new pm.

Suggestion?

    Ubuntu didn't have *year* format releases until 2016, ie. with the introduction of Ubuntu Core 16. They are different products to the far more widely used *year.month* releases (ie. 16.04 & 16 are different systems). Either way, any release from 2014 is off-topic here, with the oldest supported release being Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for this site. – guiverc Aug 28 '22 at 00:55
