The Vanniyar community is the majority community in this constituency with around 30% population.
The population of other communities are: Paraiyar 22%, All Vellala Mudhaliyars + Senguntha Mudhaliyars 15%, All kinds of Naidus 8%, Konar 7% and 5% Muslims.
In the 2021 MLA election, it is said that the DMK party's Reddy candidate defeated AIADMK's Vanniyar candidate with the help of Mudaliyars+Naidu+Reddy combo in favour of DMK.
It is to be noticed that the Reddy candidate won without having considerable Reddy population.
Also, it is said that the Reddy candidate won as a compromising candidate due to caste rivalry among Tamil castes in the northern districts namely, Mudhaliyar, Vanniyar and Paraiyar.
