Delicious Party Pretty Cure

Delicious Party Pretty Cure (Japanese: デリシャスパーティ♡プリキュア, Hepburn: Derishasu Pāti♡Purikyua, stylized as Delicious Party♡Precure) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation, billed as the nineteenth installment in the Pretty Cure franchise.[2] It is directed by Toshinori Fukazawa and written by Sawako Hirabayashi, and premiered on ANN on February 6, 2022 to January 29, 2023, succeeding Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure in its initial time slot. The series' main themes are cuisine, cooking, gratitude, and sharing while being the second series to use food as its main motif since Kirakira Pretty Cure a la Mode. It was succeeded by Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure on February 5, 2023.

Story

The kingdom of CooKingdom (クッキングダム, Kukkingudamu) is a place responsible to all the cuisine in multiple worlds. However the kingdom's precious treasure, the Recipe-Bon (レシピボン, Reshipibon) is stolen by a bunch of phantom thieves named the "Bundle Gang" whose aim is to monopolize all the cooking of the world for themselves by capturing the Recipepes (レシピッピ, Reshipippi), small cooking fairies that represent every dish in the world. As a result, three Energy Fairies from the kingdom were sent to the human world in the town of Oishiina Town (おいしーなタウン, Oishīna Taun), where they meet Yui Nagomi and her friends, Kokone Fuwa, Ran Hanamichi and Amane Kasai. Together they become Pretty Cures in order to stop the Bundle Gang from capturing all the Recipepe and bring the Recipe-Bon back from their clutches.

Pretty Cures
Yui Nagomi (和実ゆい, Nagomi Yui) / Cure Precious (キュアプレシャス, Kyua Pureshasu)[3]

The main protagonist. Yui is a relaxed, straightforward, and energetic 13-year-old and 2nd-year middle school student. Her family owns a diner, and she is an only child who cherishes her late grandmother's motto, "Meals bring smiling faces". She has outstanding physical drive that allows her to excel at sports yet gets hungry quickly. Her catchphrases are "Delicious smile~!" (デリシャスマイル～！, Derishasumairu ~!) and "I'm hungry~!" (はらペコった～！, Hara peko tta ~!). She loves fresh vegetables. With Kome-Kome's power, she can transform into Cure Precious. Her theme color is pink.
Kokone Fuwa (芙羽ここね, Fuwa Kokone) / Cure Spicy (キュアスパイシー, Kyua Supaishī)[5]

Kokone is a fashionable, cool kid. She's a 14-year-old and 2nd year middle school student who loves make-up and cute things. Her family owns a fine dining restaurant, and she is an only child. From the people around her, she is viewed as someone who is out of their league. She loves to be alone, and doesn't speak much, but gradually improves over time. Kokone's favorite breads are curry bread and heart-shaped bread. With Pam-Pam's power, she can transform into Cure Spicy. Her theme color is blue.
Ran Hanamichi (華満らん, Hanamichi Ran) / Cure Yum-Yum (キュアヤムヤム, Kyua Yamuyamu)[6]

Ran is a 14-year-old and 2nd-year middle school student who loves to talk. Her family owns a ramen shop. She has a younger sister and brother. She is very curious about food, and when she gets excited, she can't stop talking. In fact, she's the talkative-type of the cures. She secretly posts about food on the social media platform, "CureSta". With Mem-Mem's power, she can transform into Cure Yum-Yum. Her theme color is yellow.
Amane Kasai (菓彩 あまね, Kasai Amane) / Cure Finale (キュアフィナーレ, Kyua Fināre)[7]
Voiced by: Ai Kayano[4][8]
Amane is a reliable 15-year-old and 3rd year middle school student with a strong sense of justice. Her family owns a fruit parlor, and she has two older brothers. She is the student council president who cares about the wellbeing of the whole school. She is good at both sports and her studies, and is taking karate lessons. Amane's favorite sweets are ohagi and parfaits. She is good friends with the Parfait Recipepe, who she loves dearly. She was once brainwashed as Gentle (ジェントルー, Jentorū), a member of the Bundle Gang who is responsible for stealing the Recipe-Bon. After many headaches, Yui, Kokone and Ran have finally managed to free her from Godatz's control in Episode 12. With the power of the Heart Fruits Pendant, she can transform into Cure Finale. Her theme color is gold.[9]

Energy Fairies
Kome-Kome II (コメコメ2世, Komekome Nisei)
Voiced by: Natsumi Takamori[10][11]
The fox-like Energy Fairy of Rice, who from episode 3 onwards also has the ability to transform into a human girl. Her full name is Connectal Mochimochitto Fukkurara Glycogen Komex II (コネクトル・モチモチット・フックララ・グリコーゲン・コメックス2世, Konekutoru Mochimochitto Fukkurara Girikogen Komekkusu Nisei). Compared to the other two, she's young, innocent and energetic. When she combines forces and transforms with Yui, she enters her "rice ball form." She ends her sentences with "~kome" (～コメ).
Pam-Pam (パムパム, Pamupamu)
Voiced by: Natsumi Hioka[12][13]
The dog-like Energy Fairy of Bread. Her full name is Partnal Fuwafuwan Kobashiné Yeast Pamsandwich (パートナル・フワフワン・コーバシィヌ・イースト・パムサンド, Patoreru Fuwafuwan Kobashine Yesuto Pamusendo). She's 4 or 5 in human years, and loves to get compliments. She loves Kokone. When she combines forces and transforms with Kokone, she enters her "sandwich form." She ends her sentences with "~pamu" (～パム).
Mem-Mem (メンメン, Menmen)
Voiced by: Tomoe Hanba[14][15]
The dragon-like Energy Fairy of Noodles. His full name is Membern Chulturut Kurukururin Glutamine Memdragon (メンバーヌ・チュルチュルット・クルクルリン・グルタミンサン・メンドラゴン, Menbānu Churuchurutto Kurukururin Gurutaminsan Mendoragon). About 4-5 in human years, he's relaxed and doesn't make a fuss. He's impressed by Ran's passion. When he combines forces and transforms with Ran, he enters his "bowl form." He ends his sentences with "~men" (～メン).

Rosemary (ローズマリー, Rōzumarī)

A man from CooKingdom who came in search of the stolen Recipe-Bon. He has high beauty standards and knows cosmetology and is often emotional. He is capable of conjuring the Delicious Field (デリシャスフィールド, Derishasu Fīrudo), a battle dimension where the Cures can fight the Bundle Gang without hurting the innocent civilians on Earth. His catchphrase is "◯◯ mega-sized~!" (◯◯盛り～！).

After learning from Yui and the others from the future that the food and the memories associated with it would be in danger, she decides to use all her energy to protect Oishiina Town and sacrifice herself, giving birth to the current Kome-Kome.

Takumi Shinada (品田拓海, Shinada Takumi) / Black Pepper (ブラックペッパー, Burakku Peppā)

Takumi is Yui's childhood friend and a 3rd year middle school student. He's blunt but takes care of people. His family runs a guest house. He can transform into a Cook Fighter named Black Pepper, using the power of the Delicious Stone.

Bundoru Gang

The series' main antagonists. The Bundoru Gang (ブンドル団, Bundoru Dan) are a group of phantom thieves responsible for the disappearance of the Recipe-Bon in the CooKingdom. Their aim on obtaining it is to monopolize every dish for themselves by capturing all the Recipepes.

Godatz (ゴーダッツ, Gōdattsu)

The main antagonist of the series. The greedy leader of the Bundoru Gang who wants to collect all of the Recipepes so he can own all types of cuisines. In Episode 41, his true identity is Fennel (フェンネル, Fen'neru), the Imperial Guard Captain of the CooKingdom. In Episode 44, Godatz is eventually defeated and lost the two Delicious Stones, turning him back into his original self and was arrested for his crimes.

Secretoru (セクレトルー, Sekuretorū)

The second-in-command of the Bundoru Gang who has an insidious way of speaking. In Episode 42, she was betrayed by Godatz.
Narcistoru (ナルシストルー, Narushisutorū)

The self-proclaimed genius of the Bundoru Gang who invents new gadgets to make the Ubauzo stronger. In Episode 28, it was revealed that he was once a CooKingdom resident and was finally arrested in the end. In Episode 37, he escaped from prison when Secretoru was going to attack him and then he lets the Cures send him back.
Spiritoru (スピリットルー, Supirittorū)
Voiced by: Mitsuaki Kanuka[29]
The cheerful robot of the Bundoru Gang who was created by Narcistoru and powered by a Delicious Stone. Spiritoru was originally programmed with Narcistoru's tastes in mind as well as being very kind with cheerleader-like tendencies. In Episode 27, he was unfortunately deactivated by Narcistoru who abruptly removes his Delicious Stone. In Episode 28, Secretoru later decides to restore him with another Special Delicious Stone so he can go on missions again but after Secretoru reprogrammed him, Spiritoru became serious and more task-oriented. Eventually in Episode 45, he was reprogrammed and becomes a happy robot again, who has understood the goodness of sharing food with others.

Monsters
Ubauzo (ウバウゾー, Ubauzō)
Voiced by: Soshiro Hori
The series' main monsters. Their name is based on the word "to steal" (奪う, ubau). They are created by the Bundle Gang Generals using the stolen Recipepes and the Bundle Gang container. Upon being purified by the Cures, they say "I'm stuffed~" (オナカイッパ～イ, Onakaippai) and also freeing a Recipepe from the container. In Episode 10, after Gentle's container received an upgrade, the Ubauzo has become stronger. These are created from the bento box of the Bundle Gang members when they lend their power by saying ""Let me give you my power!" (何時に, 我が力を授けよう, Nanji ni, waga chikara). The box changes to be completely purple with a yellow line, with the Bundle Gang logo and sides that look like horns. In Episode 13, the new upgrade type called Motto Ubauzo (もっとウバウゾー, Motto Ubauzō) is summoned by Narcistoru. In Episode 17, Narcistole is able to fuse two possessed objects to create a stronger Motto Ubauzo. In Episode 25, Spiritole is able to fuse a cooking object and a non cooking object to create a even stronger Motto Ubauzo. In Episode 28, a powerful type called Gossori Ubauzo (ゴッソリウバウゾー, Gossori Ubauzō) is summoned by Secretoru.

An elderly lady who runs the traditional Japanese sweet shop Hagoromo-do (は ご ろ も 堂). On her own, which boasts 60 years of uninterrupted business. She is forced to close due to a new business district and therefore Ran, who is a loyal customer of the store, tries to help her. In reality, being old and lonely, she no longer wishes to carry on the shop, contenting herself with letting her sweets live in the memories of her most loyal customers.
Yosuke Minato (湊 陽佑, Minato Yosuke) & Asae Sakurai (櫻井 麻恵, Sakurai Asae)

They are two childhood friends and acquaintances of Takumi. Yosuke works at a fruit and vegetable shop that Takumi goes to while Asae is often ill due to her weak physical condition. Precisely for this reason, in the past, Yosuke used to bring her crêpes while she was hospitalized and that Takumi will try to recreate to reconcile the two after a fight.
Takao Fujino (藤野 タカオ, Fujino Takao) & Miyako Fujino (藤野 みやこ, Fujino Miyako)

A married couple and together they run the Teppen Fujino (鉄 板 ふ じ の). Specialty yakisoba restaurant. Very close-knit, they participate against Rosemary in the "Yummy Street Food Grand Prix" with their specialty, the "Love Love Sea Food Yakisoba". Five years ago, the shop was run by Miyako's family and Takao was a regular customer. They both loved each other but neither had the courage to confess their feelings to the other. Thanks to Yui's grandmother, known to both of them, they managed to declare themselves while eating yakisoba while watching fireworks together, a legend that is said to unite people forever.

He is a guest of the "Churu Fest", an event in Oishiina Town which hosts noodles from all over the world. He met Ran's father during one of his trips.
Maira Isuki (マイラ・イースキ, Maria Īsuki)

The princess of the distant island Isuki, very similar to Yui except for the color of her eyes and her temper, composed and shy. Years earlier she had met Monpei who had told her of his incredible resemblance to Yui. Because of her shyness she is afraid of failure, and therefore prefers to plan everything in advance and has not been allowed to visit public places for many years due to her role as future queen of Isuki. She then decides, with the support of Yui and the others, to swap her identity with Yui's for an afternoon, so that she can try the foods of Oishina Town without being discovered. She is also called The Smiling Princess (微笑 み の 王 女, Hohoemi no ojō). Because she prefers to smile rather than talk.

Development

On November 4, 2021, Toei trademarked the name for the new series that will be released for the 2022 season. On November 25, 2021, the series title was officially unveiled on Toei's official website.[69][70][71] The official website is then later updated on January 9, 2022, with new information and reveal of the main characters of the series.[72] Regarding the main theme of the series, ABC Animation Producer Kanako Tada said that "Food and cooking is irreplaceable in life, and at the same time, it has many important elements that give color to everyday life. Through this work, the motto Yui Nagomi cherishes: 'Meals bring smiling faces' will surely be an important word for everyone." Toei Animation producer Yasumi Kaori also said that "Warm feelings will surely make you smile. The happiness and joy of 'sharing' smiles also opens up new smiles... With that in mind, I chose 'gratitude' and 'sharing' as the main theme, and 'food' as the center of the story."[73]

The series also marks the debut role for Hana Hishikawa, in which she debuted her voice acting career back in 2020.[74]

On March 11, 2022, Toei Animation announced a hiatus, due to its production being affected by a third party hack that had tampered with the studio's own files.[75] It was later announced on March 13, 2022, that the show would be on hiatus for four weeks.[76] On April 3, 2022, it was announced that the show would be on hiatus at least another week.[77] On April 6, it was announced that the show would resume airing beginning on April 17.[78]

Delicious Party Pretty Cure officially aired on all ANN stations in Japan from February 6, 2022 to January 29, 2023, replacing Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure in its initial timeslot. Machico performed the series' opening theme "Cheers! Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure" (Cheers!デリシャスパーティ♡プリキュア, Cheers! Derishasu Pāti♡Purikyua) while Chihaya Yoshitake performed the first ending theme "Delicious Happy Days" and Rico Sasaki performed the second ending theme "Delicious Heart" (ココロデリシャス, Kokoro Derishasu). Shiho Terada (Garo) returns to compose the music for the third time. Toei Animation Inc. licensed the series in North America and several select territories and began streaming on Crunchyroll the same day it premiered in Japan.[79]

Films

A movie based on the anime, Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure the Movie: Dreaming♡Children's Lunch! (映画デリシャスパーティ♡プリキュア 夢みる♡お子さまランチ!, Eiga Derishasu Pāti♡Purikyua Yumemiru♡Okosama Rachi!) was released in Japanese movie theaters on September 23, 2022.
