Bintang Barnard merupakan bintang terdekat kedua setelah sistem bintang Centauri (Alpha Centauri, Beta Centauri, dan Proxima Centauri) dan terletak di Rasi bintang Ophiuchus, tepatnya di barat Beta Ophiuchi.

Bintang ini sudah berumur sekitar 11-12 Milliar tahun (sekitar 2x lipat Matahari). Variasi Periodik kecil pada cahaya bintang menujukkan bahwa bintang ini berotasi sangat lambat, sekitar 130 hari sekali rotasi.
