Gliese 229

Gliese 229 (juga disebut sebagai Gl 229 atau GJ 229) adalah sebuah sistem biner yang terdiri dari katai merah dan katai coklat sekitar 19 tahun cahaya di konstelasi Lepus. Komponen katai merah memiliki massa 150% Matahari,[11] serta 69% jari-jari Mars,[12] dan kecepatan rotasi proyeksi yang sangat rendah sebesar 1 km/s di ekuator bintang.[13]

Bintang tersebut dikenal sebagai bintang suar dengan aktivitas rendah, yang artinya mengalami peningkatan luminositas secara acak karena aktivitas magnet di permukaannya. Spektrumnya menunjukkan garis emisi kalsium pada pita H dan K. Emisi sinar-X telah terdeteksi dari korona bintang ini. Ini mungkin disebabkan oleh loop magnet yang berinteraksi dengan gas dari atmosfer luar bintang. Tidak ada aktivitas bintik bintang berskala besar yang terdeteksi.

Kecepatan ruang komponen dari bintang ini adalah U = 12, V = -11 dan W = -12 km/s. Orbit bintang ini melalui galaksi Bima Sakti memiliki eksentrisitas 0,07 dan kemiringan orbital 0,005.
