Jared Diamond

Jared Mason Diamond (lahir 10 September 1937) adalah ilmuwan dan pengarang Amerika Serikat yang dikenal karena menulis buku The Third Chimpanzee (1991), Guns, Germs, and Steel (1997), Collapse (2005) dan The World Until Yesterday (2012). Ia adalah Profesor Geografi di Universitas California, Los Angeles.[1][2]

Pendidikan

Diamond lahir di Boston, Massachusetts, dalam keluarga Yahudi Bessarabia.[3] Ayahnya, Louis K. Diamond, adalah seorang fisikawan, sementara ibunya, Flora Kaplan, berprofesi sebagai guru, ahli bahasa, dan pemain piano. Diamond sendiri mulai belajar bermain piano pada umur enam tahun; beberapa tahun kemudian, ia akan meminang istrinya setelah memainkan Brahms Intermezzo dalam A minor untuknya.[4] Ia mendapatkan gelar Bachelor of Arts dari Harvard College pada tahun 1958 dan PhD dalam bidang fisiologi dan biofisika dari Universitas Cambridge pada tahun 1961.[1][5]

Negara yang diuji antara lain Finlandia, Jepang, Chili, Indonesia, Jerman, Australia, dan Amerika Serikat.[6] Anand Giridharadas, yang menjadi pengulas dalam The New York Times, berpandangan bahwa buku ini mengandung banyak fakta tak akurat.[7]
