Republik Rakyat Benin didirikan pada 30 November 1975, setelah kudeta tahun 1972 di Republik Dahomey. Secara efektif, negara ini berlangsung sampai dengan 1 Maret 1990, dengan penerapan konstitusi baru, dan penghapusan Marxisme-Leninisme di negara Benin pada tahun 1989.[1][2][3]
