Bis zur landesweiten Neuordnung der französischen Kantone im März 2015 gehörten zum Kanton Marnay die 18 Gemeinden Avrigney-Virey, Bay, Beaumotte-lès-Pin, Bonboillon, Brussey, Chambornay-lès-Pin, Charcenne, Chenevrey-et-Morogne, Courcuire, Cugney, Cult, Étuz, Hugier, Marnay, Pin, Sornay, Tromarey und Vregille. Sein Zuschnitt entsprach einer Fläche von 146,99 km2. Er besaß vor 2015 einen anderen INSEE-Code als heute, nämlich 7015.
