Leon Lillie

Leon Michael Lillie (born June 1961) is a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represents District 44B, which includes portions of Ramsey and Washington counties in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. He is also an airline employee.[1]

Education

Lillie graduated from North High School in North Saint Paul, then attended the University of Nottingham in Nottingham, England and at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, earning his B.S. in Political Science. He served on the North Saint Paul City Council from 1995–2004.[1][2]

Minnesota House of Representatives

Lillie was first elected in 2004, and has been elected every two years since then. He served as vice chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee during the 2009-2010 Biennium.[3] From 2013-2014 he served as an Assistant Majority Leader for the DFL. When the DFL retook the majority in 2018, Lillie was chosen as chair of the Legacy Finance Division, which oversees the allocation of proceeds from a state sales tax increase passed in 2008. Those funds are designated to protecting drinking water and wildlife habitat as well as preserving arts and cultural heritage.[4] Lillie currently serves as the chair of the Legacy Finance Division.[1]

Personal life

Lillie is married and has three children. His brother, Ted Lillie, a Republican, was a member of the Minnesota Senate.
